Trinidad and Tobago Cold Chain Project

Jun 30, 2023

Vaccine efficacy is a challenge without the right equipment to maintain refrigerated temperatures. Developing countries, in particular, face additional challenges storing and maintaining vaccines at a clinical site.

Made possible by a donation from the US government to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Cold Chain Project in Trinidad and Tobago upgraded cold chain capabilities across 44 health centers in the country. New solar freezers and remote temperature monitoring devices allow staff to mitigate temperature excursions, even on the weekends and during power outages or power fluctuations.

To learn more about the project, including how staff were trained to maintain the new equipment, visit the PAHO YouTube channel.
