China's Logistics Plan

Jan 6, 2023

On December 15, 2022, The People’s Republic of China shared its plans to modernize logistics throughout China. The five year plan focuses on digital transformation, enhancing competitiveness and improving quality and efficiency. Cold chain logistics and sustainability are key parts of the plan.

Though China recognizes its need to standardize logistics throughout the country, it’s also pursuing a stronger connection to international markets and an increasingly global footprint. Paired with the Made in China 2025 plan, which aims to grow the pharmaceutical market in China, we see a few positive implications for the pharmaceutical industry:

  • Companies already operating in China will have an easier time accessing cold chain services and facilities when transporting temperature-sensitive products within China and globally.
  • Last mile deliveries to rural areas of China will become less challenging as infrastructure improves.
  • Digital transformation may improve access to data on shipments.
  • Sustainability initiatives will support pharmaceutical companies’ sustainability goals.
